No Postage Necessary If Mailed In The United States?
“No postage necessary” means that as the sender, you are not required to pay for postage. The recipient of the mail will be responsible for paying the postage fees once the cost is calculated. It is important to note that this service is not referred to as “regular first class mail” since there is no specific service called “regular first class.”
What happens to mail without postage?
Once you deposit the letter in the mail collection box, it proceeds to a post office department where it undergoes sorting using automated equipment. If your envelope does not have a postage stamp, a specialized scanner will detect it, and the letter will be classified as a separate category of mail. It will then be directed to a dedicated employee who will check for any missing postage stamps on the letters.
If you need guidance on writing the return address on the envelope or what happens if you forgot to include it, you can find more information in our blog post here.
In the event that you forgot to affix a postage stamp to a letter that has already been sent, one of the following scenarios will occur:
1. The letter will be returned to you, the sender.
2. The recipient of the letter will be required to pay for the missing stamp.
The specific amount the recipient will need to pay depends on the policies of the post office involved. In most cases, the recipient will be charged a fee equivalent to the price of the stamp for the letter. However, it is also possible that they may incur a surcharge for insufficient postage on the unstamped letter.
If the recipient refuses to pay the required fees, the letter will be returned to you, the sender. In this case, you will be responsible for covering the necessary fees associated with the letter.
Can you send a package without postage?
In the case of a package without paid postage, it will either be returned to the sender or held at the post office until the recipient pays the required postage before delivery. If the package remains unclaimed or the postage is not paid, it may be returned to the sender or disposed of by the postal service.
What postage is required?
For standard-sized letters weighing 3.5 ounces or less, a single stamp is required. In the case of large envelopes, such as 9×12, legal, or manila envelopes, two stamps are needed for the first ounce, with an additional postage cost of $0.20 cents for each subsequent ounce.
It is important to note that postage is not required for mail within the United States.
